| The Story of BIROSO’s Calligraphy Hoodies
BIROSO—a brand dedicated to introducing Korean designers, artisans, and handcrafted artists to a global audience—embarked on a special project merging Korean traditional calligraphy with modern fashion.
After three months of intensive design exploration, we are proud to unveil our two new hoodie designs.
1. The Brand Identity Found in Korean Calligraphy
In Korea, calligraphy is an art form that uses ink and brush to capture the spirit of the artist, reflecting the nation’s rich heritage, culture, and values.
BIROSO sought to reimagine this ancient tradition with a contemporary edge, collaborating with a highly skilled calligrapher to craft the Korean word “비로소 (bi-ro-so)”, which translates to “finally” or “at last.”
Why “비로소”?
“비로소” signifies the excitement of a long-anticipated moment and the dawn of something entirely new.
Our anonymous calligrapher elegantly transformed this concept into powerful brushstrokes, infusing each line with determination and positivity—a perfect reflection of BIROSO’s ethos.
2. Representing Korea: Namsan Tower and the Mugunghwa Flower
Alongside our brand name, we wanted to celebrate two iconic symbols of Korea through calligraphy: Namsan Tower and the Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon).
Namsan Tower
Towering in central Seoul, Namsan Tower symbolizes the coexistence of modernity and tradition in Korea’s capital. By showcasing a bold calligraphy silhouette of this landmark on the back of one hoodie design, we’ve brought Seoul’s lively heartbeat into everyday fashion.
Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon)
As the national flower of Korea, the Mugunghwa stands for resilience, perseverance, and the eternal spirit of the Korean people. Its literal translation, “eternally blooming,” perfectly captures BIROSO’s mission to share Korea’s enduring yet gentle beauty with the world.
3. Three Months of Passion and Prototyping
Layout & Fabric Choices
We experimented with the placement of “비로소,” Namsan Tower, and the Mugunghwa across multiple prototypes to achieve the ideal balance. Each sample brought us closer to a design that harmonizes traditional calligraphy with modern streetwear.
Fit & Texture Tests
A hoodie’s silhouette and fabric weight greatly influence how calligraphy-based artwork is perceived. We tested various materials and fits until we found one that lets you truly feel the depth of Korean calligraphy with every wear.
After months of dedicated work, we arrived at two hoodie designs that combine the first stroke of “비로소” with the essence of Korea’s most beloved symbols, resulting in authentic pieces imbued with cultural significance.
4. Two Distinct Hoodie Designs
Namsan Tower Design
- Front: Korean Calligraphy of “비로소”
- Back: Calligraphy Silhouette of Namsan Tower + English “BIROSO” Logo
Concept: Highlight “비로소” in Hangul to celebrate Korean heritage and BIROSO’s brand essence. The **energy of Seoul’s heart—Namsan Tower—**adorns the back, allowing you to carry a piece of the city wherever you go.
Mugunghwa Design
- Front: Minimal English “BIROSO” Logo
- Back: A Bold, Calligraphy-Inspired Mugunghwa + Korean “비로소”
Concept: Combine a sleek English logo with Korea’s national flower in dynamic brushstrokes, portraying an ever-blooming spirit that resonates with global audiences.

With a 360gsm (500g/yd) fabric weight, this hoodie suits everything from casual daily wear to a stylish street look.

Made with a blend of 60% cotton and 40% polyester, it wicks away sweat and dries quickly, keeping you comfortable all day.
- CARE GUIDE
-Hand Wash or Dry Clean
For long-lasting shape and design, we recommend gentle hand washing in lukewarm water or professional dry cleaning.
-No Bleach & No Prolonged Soaking
-Avoid using bleach and do not soak for more than 30 minutes, as it can damage both the fabric and the printed graphics.
-Prevent Pilling & Snags
Turn the hoodie inside out before washing to reduce friction and protect the print.
-Air Dry Recommended
Machine drying may cause shrinkage or distortion. Instead, hang it in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally.
